Choosing a Hamster Name

name. But what's the best name for your hamster? How do other
people choose their hamster names? There are lots of ways to decide.
Some people name them after other hamsters. Just like people like to name their children John Jr. or Tyson the Third, some people like to name their pet hamsters after previous hamster pets.
There are people who name all of their hamsters the same name, just like George Foreman has named all of his children George. If you like this idea, you could use a variation of this concept by giving them all the same first name but different second names. For example, Casey Jo, Casey Bob, Casey Shania and so on. Or you can do the reverse and give them all different first names but the same second name. For example, Brenda Lou, Shanequa Lou, Lisa Lu and so on.
Sometimes people name their pet hamsters after people they know or admire. You can name your pet after your favorite coach, your favorite teacher, your favorite athlete, or your favorite American Idol. If you have a colony of hamsters you could name them for each player on your favorite basketball team or your favorite soccer team. Or what about using the names of characters from your favorite movie, like Han Solo, Luke Skywalker or Princess Leia?
Other people think of things they like and make a list. You can choose your favorite colors (like Blue or Pinky), your favorite foods (like Peach Pie or Lemon Drop), or just things that make you happy (like Rainbow or Sunshine). If you can't decide, you can cut each name into a little piece of paper, put them all into a bowl, close your eyes and select at random.
Of course you can always use your hamster for your inspiration. Is she cream-colored and fluffy? Then name her Creampuff. Does he squirm around so much you can hardly keep him in your hand? Name him Mr. Wiggles. Did you bring them home on St. Patrick's Day? Then name them Paddy and Leprechaun.
But no matter which method you use for choosing your hamster's name, once you decide on it, use it whenever you talk to your hamster. Believe it or not you can train your hamster to come to you when you call him by name. So be sure to choose a name that you like and that your family likes, because you'll all be hearing it a lot.
